My name is Maddie Zepp, 18, and I live in Bloomington, IN. I am in college now but I used to dance at Farbers Fusion Dance Company!

Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.

I tried many other recreational sports such as gymnastics, soccer, and cheer, but I did not find my love of dance until around 12. I started competing at the age of 13 until 18 and have been in love with it ever since! I am now on a dance team at my college which is different than the type of dance I was used to throughout my competition years, but I absolutely love it!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?

Not in the slightest. One of the many things I dealt with as a child was low muscle tone, which put me pretty far behind what everyone else my age was doing. I have had to work super hard to gain the normal amount of strength others have, let alone have proper technique and placement. I still struggle with ankle and Achilles pain, but it definitely doesn’t stop me from doing what I love. :)

How do you conquer negative talk?

By reminding myself where I started and how far I have come in such a short amount of time!

What is your favorite quote?

“Don’t stop until you’re proud.” - Author Unknown

So, what’s next? Any big plans?

I am planning on auditioning for the Indiana Pacemates and definitely teaching dance in the future. :)
