How Often Should You Stretch Per Week?
Now, we understand that not every dancer needs to do the splits in order to succeed in their career. However, stretching is still very important to make sure you don’t injure yourself while dancing. Stretching is simply used to increase range of motion and muscle tone, along with flexibility. But how often should you be stretching your muscles as a dancer? We reached out to our awesome dance community and here’s what they had to say:
- Stretch every day.
Just like any other sport, dance involves training both inside and outside the studio. Stretching is no exception.
- Stretch 6 days a week and do another sport.
Dancing doesn’t have to be the only sport you do. You can also swim, run, or bike to name a few.
- Stretch multiple times a day every day.
It is good to stretch throughout the day as our muscles get warm and cold. However, if you are stretching multiple times a day, don’t push too hard.
As a dancer, you don’t have to stretch every day in order to improve your flexibility. While stretching every day is the best and fastest way to get your splits, don’t be too hard on yourself if you can’t, especially if you are involved with other sports and/or activities. But if you want to get flexible as fast as possible, stretching every day is the best way to do it. Just don’t overdo it and risk injuring yourself by pushing too hard.
