Meet Joyce Kei, 14, from Hong Kong. She trains at Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.
Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started dancing when I was four. I learned ballet, jazz, Latin, contemporary, lyrical and theatre dance. I like to choreograph my own dances for competitions and I have won many awards. I'm also a rhythmic gymnast.
Sidenote: Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport in which gymnasts perform on a floor with a prop like a hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon or rope. Pretty much what you see in the olympics.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to pursue passions is never easy. But determination will keep me going.
What personal limitations if any did you go through in your young career?
My body flexibility Is something I always need to work on.
Has anybody ever tried to limit you on what you could do? If so how did you fight it?
Not really.
How do you conquer negative talk?
Never mind what other people say.
What is your favorite quote?
Follow your heart ❤️
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Keep working hard!
